Design: Patricia Urquiola (2006).
The architecture of lightness
Sophisticated yet comforting, understated luxury with a vaguely Oriental feel. Simple and minimal when in the standard position; supremely comfortable when the backrest, which has a tilting mechanism, is raised. The chrome-steel or black painted tube legs are reminiscent of the colored wooden sticks used for playing Mikado (or pick-up-sticks, known as Shanghai in Italian). Comfort is an intrinsic feature and achieved through down-filled seat cushions upholstered in clean, neutral shades which contrast perfectly with the splashes of color provided by the throw cushions and lacquered side tables in plum, emerald green, paprika and lacquer red.
Stress-resistant polyurethane foam in varied densities and polyester fiberfill on wood frame. Back and armrests are in injected flame-retardant polyurethane foam and polyester fiberfill over internal steel frame. Feet are tubular steel with chrome finish or matte powder coat finish; on polypropylene glides. Shanghai Tip collection covers are removable.
