Peter Raacke
Peter Raacke (b. 1928, Hanau – d. 2022) was a German designer celebrated for his clear, forward-looking approach that helped shape postwar modernism. Trained at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach, Raacke believed good design should combine utility, honesty, and beauty in equal measure.
Best known for creating the iconic Mono A flatware in 1959, Raacke redefined everyday dining with a design that was simple, functional, and remarkably modern for its time. What began as an experiment in reducing form and material grew into one of the most enduring flatware collections of the 20th century—still produced today by Mono in Mettmann, Germany.
Over his long career, Raacke worked across product design, teaching, and design research, leaving behind a legacy of clarity and timelessness. His work continues to inspire new generations of designers, and his vision lives on through pieces like Mono A—part of the curated collection available at JANGEORGe Interior Design & Furniture.
